An interesting lens, with hardly any reviews, for vintage digital enthusiasts with FourThirds (4/3) digital SLR cameras to look up is the Zuiko Digital 17.5-45mm 1:3.5-5.6. Interesting, and unique, as the zoom was only available as a kit lens for the lower-priced Olympus E-500 SE Kit, launched by Olympus in 2005. It is very compact and lightweight, equivalent to a 35-90mm zoom on a full frame, a focal range that completely covers the need for a medium wide-angle to a classical telephoto portrait lens.
Aside from minor listings on current used-sale and database sites, the lens's non-availability as a stand-alone sale (when it was launched) is probably the reason behind its limited coverage and reviews on the Net.
The autofocus lens, a double barrel design with 7 elements in 7 groups optics with 2 aspherical elements, has 7 blades, a diameter of 71 mm and 70 mm long, weighs 210 grams, takes 52mm filters, and comes with an astounding minimum focusing distance of 0.28 meters.
The lens is most compact between the 25 and 35mm focal distance indicators, extends slightly out at 45mm, draws back in, and out again to its furthest when zoomed wide. The lens has a plastic mount, the front element does not rotate, and the lens is not image-stabilized.

Olympus E-500
The Olympus E-500 (Olympus EVOLT E-500 in the US), fitted with the much talked about 8MP Kodak KAF-8300CE CCD sensor, is a well-regarded consumer-orientated Four/Third digital SLR camera system introduced by Olympus in 2005. The camera has a 2.5-inch 215,250 dot LCD, a shutter speed range from 60 - 1/4000 second, and Bulb, a manual ISO speed range from 100 to 1600 (100 to 400 on Auto), and comes with a body weight of 435 grams. Images are stored on CF or xD card in RAW and JPEG file formats.
The lens was complementary to the used E-500 I acquired through the mail, and both turned out to be in excellent almost unused condition. On the occasions of the test shoot, the camera and lens functioned flawlessly, with images that turned out excellent. The camera and lens combo are still lightweight, comfortable to shoot with, and convenient to lug around.
